As part of the School Board's budget reconciliation process, and in a continuing effort to make Loudoun County Public Schools efficient and 'green,' we've taken delivery of a fleet of new hybrid buses. They're so technologically advanced that we won't need seat belts; the concept of' 'sardining' students will ensure they don't go flying in an accident. Also, we expect bus driver's health to increase due to the aerobic workout drivers will get on their runs. It has already produced some unexpected results. In Ashburn, where the new buses have already started operating, students walking to school increased 68 percent. However the Board of Supervisors, still isn't impressed, one Supervisor alluded to an outstanding school system in Vietnam where the school system uses convicted prisoners to drive buses that don't even have tires on the wheels. Of course, this is the same Supervisor who promises to fund the land purchase for a new high school in Lansdowne with the proceeds from a financial transaction with the widow of the former finance minister of the Nigeria, who it turns out was their long-lost uncle.
OK, its not April Fools Day, but after the Board of Supervisors vote last week, we need something to laugh at.
