I serve on the Board of Directors for the Loudoun County Chapter of the Red Cross . We are seeking donations to continue our service to the community. Here are some facts about Red Cross and our chapter:
* The American Red Cross is the only humanitarian organization with a Congressional charter to provide relief to victims of disasters and to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies
* The Loudoun County Chapter of the American Red Cross is funded through voluntary contributions by individuals, businesses, foundations and groups. The American Red Cross is not a government agency and therefore the Loudoun County Chapter does not receive governmental funding or funds from the national American Red Cross.
* The Loudoun County Chapter abides by the seven founding principles of the Red Cross movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality
* The Loudoun County Chapter service area covers more than 279,000 local people and 517 square miles in Loudoun County
* The American Red Cross has received an A+ rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy for its proven ability to get quick relief to disaster victims while using every dollar wisely; Charity Navigator has designated the Red Cross a 4-star charity, its highest rating.
